Hi,
Two of my ancestors are listed in various records in the early to mid-1800's as being
wine porters. They are also described in many records as being servants. One also appears in the 1841 census as a cellarman.
Would
wine porters have been servants who specialised in wine, or would they be independent merchants who traded in wine?

Any suggestions welcome.
Jane.
