Hi Smithy,

well I'm no geography expert either so figured I would try and find them in another census. In 1871 William's birthplace looks like Manton (which means nothing to me either!) and Ann's is given as Bosworth, which will possibly be Market Bosworth. I'm sure someone with local knowledge might expand on that!
They also have two daughters with them - Eliza 16 and Lucy 10. The census image is hard to read, so if you would like to see for yourself please pm me with your email address and I'll send it on.

Greeting's . . . . . .

The only village which comes to mind is :-
"Allexton " which is on the boarders of
Leicestershire / Rutland. . . . .
Which could tie in with " Manton " which is
again in the County of Rutland. . . .

Bosworth ?
There are two which come again to mind that being :-
" Husbands Bosworth " to the South of Leicestershire close to Northamptonshire boarders. So a possibility.

The other one being " Market Bosworth " which is the other side of Leicestershire. Which featured in the close of the " War of the Roses " 1485.

I see from your Village Names you are researching. . .
did you know there's a " Thornton "
close to Market Bosworth ?. . .

Ummm the plot thickens. . .  :-\

MIKE.

To Heather B and Mike from Leicester, thanks for the answer to my query, I have the 1871 census for william and ann thankyou Heather.  Have also seen  Manton and Bosworth given as places of birth. Mike I guess your suggestion of Allexton could be a possibility.
I am really trying to find the birth of a son John Gee who gives his birth place as Nottingham on all censuses I have except the 1871 census. He also married Sarah Lowe in Loughbro Leicester in 1868.John Gee gives his fathers name as William Gee (Butcher)
Gee Nelson Thornton (Nottingham)
Thornton (Staffordshire)
