census 1831?
« on: Tuesday 23 May 06 23:30 BST (UK) »

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there was a census for Scotland in 1831.

Have more info on the Bell family just need to confirm children at that time.

Think found James & Elisabeth's family but no Daniel on 1841 as he was married at that time.

Need to find him listed as a child of James & Elisabeth Bell nee Snaddon

Thanks

kack (Kim) :)

There were censuses every 10 years from 1801, except 1941. Unfortunately the 1801 to 1831 censuses were statistical only, basically a headcount, and are considered to be of little or no use to genealogists, and remain mostly unpublished.

There are a few odd parishes where names of people were recorded for some of these older censuses, but most people will never find one of these.
