plunkett/kibby COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 30 May 06 00:28 BST (UK) »
I just got my grandfather's birth certificate to find out about his parents.
They were Edward Plunkett (a joiner journeyman) and Eliza Kibby (who put her mark on the certificate - so she could not write).
Their son (my grandfather) was Edward Plunkett - born 11 december 1890. Registered 22 jan 1891. Born Sheffield.
Legend has it that Eliza had been married before to someone with the surname Flower or Flowers.
Does any of this mean anything to anybody, please?
Edward senior may have been in Liverpool at some time (his forbears having come from ireland), and he or his father were involved in the Chartist movement.
Thanks in great anticipation!

All a  mother's previous surnames should appear on  a birth certificate, so the 'flower' bit may be no more than a legend.
Giving a more precise adress for the birth should help locate them on census, should you wish to attempt a trace that way.

Chartism flourished in the late 1830s & 1840s. It was finished off by the failure of a petition to Parliament in 1848. So probably not the younger Edward.

Hi,

They don`t seem to want to be found on the 1891 or 1901 census - perhaps there was a reason!

However, this is quite a suspicious entry on the 1901 census:

33 Pool Road, Leicester

Edward KIBBY, H, M, 48, Carpenter and Joiner, London
Eliza, Wife, M, 46, Hosiery Stitcher, Leicester
Joseph, Son, U, 20, Wood Machinery, Leicester
Edward, Son, U, 10, SHEFFIELD

Regards,
Mo

yes, I've seen this one too. They may have used her maiden name. Family stories have it that Eliza had a family before, so that would account for the Joseph.
