Catholic batism - godparents/sponsor
« on: Friday 09 June 06 08:24 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if there was a minimum age for being a godparent/ sponsor at a catholic baptism in 1878?  Was it possible for a 16/17/18 year old to be a godparent?

Thanks

Nicola

Hi njh as far as i know 16 was and is the Minimum age for a person to be godparent/sponsor.  (even though i was 14 and a half when i was godmother to my nephew in 1978 i must have looked older and no one asked my age its just now that im being godparent to the above mentioned's son this sunday that i looked up on Google and found this out.)

What are the requirements to be a Godparent?
