My grandad, John Richards was born in 1821, in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, to Thomas William and Sarah Richards, nee Lawson.

They married in Glamorgan, Wales, in 1912 (Thomas William was Welsh, as were his parents and all his known ancestors) On the marriage certificate, Sarah Lawson was 21 and her father was John Lawson, Foreman. Witnesses were Fred and Ida Lawson.

I have no idea where Sarah Lawsons from and have been searching the 1901 census for likely candidates. I came across this family -

RG13/4407 Folio 125 Page 11
Hooton Pagnell and Moorhouse, Yorks
John Lawson 37 Platelayer on railway Wellingore, Lincs
Martha 36 Kirk Smeaton, Yorks
Ada 16 Kirk Smeaton
Charles 12 Kirk Smeaton
William 10 Upton Yorks
Sarah 9 Upton Yorks
Frederick 7 Upton Yorks
Ida 4 Sprotbro Yorks
John 3 Sprotbro Yorks
George 11mo. Cudworth Yorks

Bearing in mind all the Lawson names from the marriage certificate appear within this family, John's job as railway platelayer would explain how he ended up in Wales for daughter Sarah to meet Thomas William, and John was born in Wellingore Lincolnshire, and Thomas William and Sarah ended up settling in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire not far away, do you think this is my family??

Opinions gratefully received as I dont want to spend hours/years tracing the wrong family! or have to wait for the 1911 census to come out for more clues as to who Sarah is and where shes from!

Thanks
Catherine  :)

It looks pretty good evidence with all those names. If her father was a platelayer he could have moved - maybe worth checking any railway companies. Cheshire records office have an online archive.

If she was born after April she would have been 10 later on in 1901. If the marriage was after her birthdate, she would have been 21  in 1912.

Check for a birth cert for her in Yorkshire.

Thanks for replying Gadget, After finding this family, I had a look for a birth for a Sarah Lawson and found one in Hemsworth (I think Uptons in the Hemsworth Reg. District), which would fit, so I think I'll send off for it. Nice to have other peoples opinions backing up what I've found
