Castleton - Armstrong/Grieve/Elliot.

Am Looking for any details on a Mary Elliot Armstrong, born ca.1838 Castleton, married a John Lockie 1869 Melrose.
Marriage cert. says parents Arthur Armstrong, Shepherd and Margaret Armstrong nee Grieve, death cert. in 1927 says same.

1841 census (FreeCen) gives Sheldon,Castleton living a John Lamb 50 Ag Lab OUC,  Mary Elliot 60 Roxboro, Margaret Elliot 25 Roxboro, Mary Armstrong 3 Roxboro and William Armstrong 8 days Roxboro.

There is also a Arthur Armstrong 20 Ag.Lab. Roxboro, living at Saughtree Stable Loft, Castleton with a William Armstrong 15 Ag.Lab. Roxboro.
1851 Saughtree, Castleton, Arthur Armstrong Serv. U 33 Shepherd Castleton.

Have so far not been able to pick up a marriage between a Margaret Grieve or a Margaret Elliot with a Arthur Armstrong up to 1869.

On the 1851 FreeCen Hawick, there is a Mary Armstrong step daughter 12 scholar Castleton, but there is no details as yet, nor can I pick anyone else up at Hawick that would match, don't want to go onto "scotlandspeople" as yet.

Can anyone help at all?

Thanks, at least I now have the birth date.

What I can't understand is where the Elliot comes from?, the middle names of children are Buckham (from maternal G/Mother), Jardine & Grieve, it could be that Margaret married before, but haven't found that either.

I only have details of one child but there is Elliot connection further back The Armstrong's are connected to every body mine to Scott & Douglas

I have the 1851 Hawick census transcription an have found the Mary Armstrong you mentioned on Freecen.  Details are as follows:

At Old Branxholm Park
John Murray Head Married 23 Farm Labourer Selkirk, Roberton
Margaret Murray Wife Married 40 Roxburgh, Castleton
Mary Armstrong Step Daughter 12 Scholar Roxburgh, Castleton

So it looks as if this is a possibility of being your Mary.
