Look up Caddy please
« on: Sunday 13 August 06 04:49 BST (UK) »
I am seeking details of William George de Jersey Caddy, born 4th June 1869 at Heliers to Thomas Bickle Caddy and Mary Ann Hodge.  I was hoping the parents may show on the 1871 census.  They migrated to Australia but I have no details as to when etc.  I would be so grateful for any information that could be found.  (Just new at this!)
Thanks in anticipation.

There's a reference in the IGIs to a Thomas Bickle Caddy born c1844 in Cornwall.  He married Mary Ann Hodge (born 2 Dec 1838, Roselydden, Cornwall) in 1868.

Hope this helps.

I know you were looking for a census look up.  However you said you were new to this and I wondered if you had checked out the LDS web site; http://www.familysearch.org/

William George de Jersey Caddy is listed there.  William as you know was born in England in 1869.  He was married in Collingwood in 1890, and his first son was born in Australia in 1891.
It appears that there is a Collingwood in England and in Australia.  So the family would have migrated between 1869 and 1891.

Not too much help, but at least it narrows it down a bit.

Nick, thank you so much.  The details of Thomas and Mary are wonderful.  I am amazed at the information and the speed of your reply.  (What is IGI?.)

Sammy, thanks, I had the details from the LDS site, they were posted there by an Uncle of mine, now deceased.
I am thrilled by your responses.  Thanks again.

Sorry - the IGIs are the International Genealogical Index which are posted on the LDS website.  We were both looking at the same website, just in different places.

By the way, I've had a quick look through the census in Cornwall and there is a possible trace for Mary Ann Hodge.  Her parents are Roger (a Master Mariner) and Jane - although this isn't definitely the right person, Mary Ann and Thomas's marriage certificate would prove it.
