Hi China
Youre getting technical now and losing me a bit.  It may say Roberts but she certainly looks older than 50 to me.  I had thought that it might be their wedding photo as he took a third wife we think after being widowed each time.
He died 1915 an she died shortly afterwards, I think I said that in an earleir message last year.  Its just that I noticed what may be some writing on that scarf in the original image.
regards Gareth

After further research and finding all 3 marriage cert.'s and the 2 death certs. for the earlier wives, (Ellen, Elizabeth then Rebecca),  I note that on each marriage cert. Robert Roberts, a joiner by trade, states his father is Evan Griffith, a joiner, who in turn has a father named Griffith Jones, also a joiner!

I have expanded Evan Griffiths' family quite broadly as he had several daughters, Sarah for example married William Kyffin 1867; Catherine, Jane and Elizabeth Griffiths are others. Several of these 'new wives' unfortunately die young.

I therefore come to the conclusion that Robert Roberts, who is called Robert Griffiths in 1851 census at Glanymorfa, Maentwrog, was presumably taken in by Evan and his first wife.  Evan later marries Grace Parry 1843. Evan lives till aged 78.

Evan Griffiths home of Glanymorfa keeps coming up too and it's still there by the look of it.  I have found a Robert Roberts orphaned at age 4 so it may be him.  If anyone out there is connected to Evan Griffiths please get in touch.
It's rather odd tracing a Roberts and coming back to a Griffiths surname (like mine). Regards Gareth.

Many of those mentioned in this thread including Robert Roberts and his wife Rebecca; and Evan Griffiths and his family are laid to rest in Maentwrog, at least seven headstones found in the Gwynedd FHS memorial inscription book have been connected to the certificates and evidence I have traced.

Gareth.... I have this EXACT same photo in my collection. Roberts' daughter Anne was my great grandmother.  He was known as Taid Maentwrog.  My sister in Blaenau has a Welsh dresser which he reputedly built.
I would LOVE to learn more about him. I am very new to this genealogy....
