Is this the vessel you are looking for?

LEWIS Henry               m    36    Brixham, Dev              Master
NOWELL Joseph             u    24    Brixham, Dev              Mate
BODY Charles              u    18    London                    OS
NOWELL William            u    16    Brixham, Dev              Cook

If this is the vessel you are interested in her official number is 19931 and her 1881 half yearly crew agreement is here.

She was built in Brixham in 1853. Registered in Dartmouth but probably sailed out of Brixham as Henry Lewis, her owner/skipper resided there. !881 seems to be the last year she sailed. There is no entry for her in the 1882 Mercantile Navy List and 1881 seems to be her last crew agreement. A serch of local newspapers may tell you her fate.

Problem is there were several vessels with this name around in 1881. These are the  other likely ones. Official number    20307    registered Bristol
  "          "          70524      "        Chester
                         27772            London
                         66732                 "
                         78291           Lowestoft
                         75596                  "
                         55257             ST Ives
                        41126             Padstow
                         91580            Southampton
                         45197           Wisbech
                         45313           Yarmouth

By and large these vessels were of small tonnage and I suspect most were fishing smacks or similar. As such some may not have had a crew agreement which has survived.

Dim ateb yn well nag ateb anghywir. Nid oes dim yn ddall fel rhai nad ydynt yn dymuno gweld
