Oh right - you searched all names in the relevant 1929 Q ? Impressed !

What we need is software to scan and match Vol/Page references by District and quarter !

Pauline. this is my delema, Annie Rowles was the eldest child of James and Amelia, they had 3 more children. Amelia, James and Bertie. On the 1901 census the 3 children born then Annie Amelia and James { Bertie wasnt born till  1915 } all have the surname Rowles . I can find birth detales of James , Amelia and Bertie Rowles but not of Annie Rowles. I know for certain that  she married John{jack} Nolan in 1929. Annies surname on that wedding record is Pressdee - Drinkwater or Williams.
I cant find a wedding cert for Annies perents James and Amelia but Amelia {nee Veness} had been married to a John Williams. As the name Williams is shown on Annies wedding record was her Maiden name Williams, and who were Pressdee and Drinkwater.

Did you see the Annie Williams births 1896 ?

Yes, I'd say it was Williams - the other name is double-barrelled and is the name of the other female who married the other male on that Vol/Page reference.

2 couples are recorded on one page .... after 1852

Pressdee-Drinkwater could be one name, I suppose. It looked double barrelled on the index (it does look as though it was Annie's name, Scroppers  ??? - it's a 1929 record showing spouse's name...)

2 options that I can think of:

a. You order the marriage cert
b. You do a search from ca. 1913 through 1929 for a marriage between a male Pressdee-Drinkwater (or Pressdee or Drinkwater) to an Annie Rowles or, rather, by the looks of it, an Annie Williams...

totally lost me now   ;D

I thought you were all quoting all the names you had found for a particular marriage Index entry ????

The GRO Indices that you gave the search link for just show the name in question AND the Spouses surname

So I've now explained to myself that the 'name in question' is Presdee Drinkwater who's spuse is a Williams ?

So what spouse name is against the John Nolan Index entry   ???

PS. OK, OK - I'll look it up before I get moaned at   ;D

Against John Nolan the spouses name is "Pressdee, Drinkwater or Williams"

Against Annies entry it says her surname is Pressdee Drinkwater (spouses surname Nolan)..... no mention of Williams......

The Pressdee-Drinkwater must have been the GRO people struggling with their quarterly return from Birmingham and covering themselves ...
