Is there a web site for Patagonia?
« on: Sunday 24 September 06 19:19 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I have just been informed that some of my ancestors emigrated to Patagonia in the late 1800. I have been searching for Boas Roberts for a long time now and have not been able to trace him, but it transpires he may have gone to Patagonia. Is there anywhere online where I might at least begin my search of family emigrating to Patagonia?
Kind Regards
Nerys

Hi Nerys

I found this site a while ago:

http://www.welsh-patagonia.com/GenealogicalIndex.htm

There is also one which lists the people who went out on the Mimosa in 1865.  is this too late for your folks?

Best wishes

Hi Titch
Many thanks for the links, however some of them don't work, . As far as I can gather Boas probably emigrated 1886, he's on the 1881 census Wales, but not on the 1891 census. He worked on the railways, but I have yet to learn where and if he died over there. Two of his siblings returned to Wales early 1900 but Boas remained there.
Thanks again
Regards

Hello Nerys,

It might be worth your while having a look at Jeremy Howat's excellent Brits in South America (BISA) database:

Hope you find what you're looking for :)

Anna

Modified to say: in fact the link I've given you is to Neil Hampshire's webpage, but it contains links to Jeremy Howat's site as well as many others.
