Birth Records British Forces Personnel

I am researching a family tree of a dear friend who was serving in the British Army in Germany in the 1980's.  While serving there, he had 2 sons.

I have searched the BMD but I cannot find any entries relating to his 2 sons.

My questions is, where can I find birth entries for those serving in the British Forces overseas.  This also goes for marriage as well?

 - they should be in the Overseas records, I'd imagine.  The indexes for these are also online at 1837online but I'm not sure if their indexes for the Overseas bmds go up so far as the 1980s.
