Birth look up Stirling.

Seeking the birth of Duncan Cameron c1856 in Stirling Castle reputedly. His father was with the Scots Guards there at the time of his birth.

Any information appreciated.

Hi AK

Have found nothing for him in the Statutory records (1855 -1860) in Stirling or in the OPR, 1853-4. Was his first name Duncan?

Hello Gadget,

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

Believe his first name was Duncan and he was shown as that on the 1891 census in Wellington Barracks, London. His middle name was Donald so there is the possiblity that the names were shown the other way round.

Also, the chance that I have been given duff information!

There is a Donald Cameron on the IGI www.familysearch.org

born 24 January 1855 but this was in Kilsyth, some distance from Stirling Castle!

This map shows the parishes of Stirlingshire:

Although his father was serving at Stirling Castle, his mother might have been elsewhere, maybe with her own family  :-\

Not sure if this helps but a search of the 1861 census for Stirling shows 2 possible Duncan Cameron's.  One age 5 but his father is not with the family and mother is listed as Prison Officer's wife...and this Duncan was born in Lanarkshire....but the other one is age 6 has a father named Donald who is listed as a Chelsea Pensioner and this  6 yr old Duncan is listed as born in Stirling.  There are other siblings and the mum's name is Christian.  Maybe this is the right family????

Best wishes
Jean

Hello again,

Many thanks for these.

Am sure the one with Donald Cameron is the right one as the names Duncan and Donald, run right through this family, up to the present day.

This is a great help and I cannot thank you both enough.
