Ruth Appleyard born about 1843
« on: Friday 27 October 06 22:48 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find Ruth Appleyard born about 1843 in stanley cum wrenthorpe, Wakefield, the last census I can find her on is the 1881 she is the head of the house and her younger sister Ellen is living with her, I have found Ellens death in 1888, but cannot find Ruth at all on the 1891 census, I have looked for a marriage for her and even a death, but found nothing.  Ruth was 36 years olf in 1881 and was a dressmaker.

Many thanks

Susan

Hi Susan, You have probably already solved this problem by now - but I came across your post today and so did some digging.
I found a marriage record for 10 June 1886, Weston Parish Church, Yorkshire:
Ruth Appleyard, age 38, spinster, dressmaker, residence Outwood (near Wakefield and Wrenthorpe), father's name William, a joiner
she married Samuel Smith, age 31, bachelor, farmer, residence Weston, father's name John Smith, farmer.
Could this be your Ruth?  Maybe she chopped a couple of years off her age?

Hi again Susan,
I have found the following census records for Ruth Appleyard and Samuel Smith:
1891 census; Samuel Smith; Head; age 37; Agricultural labourer; born Weston and Ruth Smith; Wife; age 41; Dressmaker; born Wakefield both at The Grange, Weston, Yorks.
1901 census: Samuel Smith; Head; age 47; Shepherd; born Norwood, Yorks and Ruth Smith; Wife; age 51; Dressmaker; born Wakefield both at Dunkirk, Danton, Wharfedale, Yorks.
I can't find her in the 1911 census, nor have I found a death record for her.
