Mary Ann Barrow (Wilson) of Milnthorpe
« on: Sunday 05 November 06 21:45 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to trace the death of my Gt Gt Grandmother Mary Ann Barrow. She was born Mary Ann Wilson on 16 October 1801 at Staverley and married Richard Nelson Barrow, a tailor from Milnthorpe, on 6th November 1837. The 1851 census shows Mr Barrow as a widower.

If anyone can help me trace the death I would appreciate it. I would also welcome hearing if any reader knows what happened to Mr Barrow.

Cedars.

Perhaps Mary's death could be one of the top two on the list? (Also seems that Richard was married before if this is the right family?)

Do let me know if you would like any of the children tracing through the census records...have found a couple of them in 1851 already... ;D

Dear Emma,

Thanks you for your endeavours on my behalf.

The Mary Barrow deaths that you list may include include my Mary Ann. Do you know if there is a way of establishing this other than by ordering all the certificates; an expensive option!

Thank you also for the Barrow family details. However I am going to pause on this for a moment. I have to confess to being descended from illegitimate stock. Before she married Mr Barrow in 1837 she had a son James Wilson, born in Kendal Workhouse in 1822 or 1823. He moved to Liverpool in the 1840s after marrying a Mary Hughes in Heversham on 2 October 1844. His marriage cert describes him as a tailor so he was almost certainly taught by his step-father. My current search is to find information about him and his mother. Life must have been difficult for them and it would be nice to know if she saw her son married.

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Apologies, but it's not a question I can answer!  Perhaps it will be possible for someone else to have a look at different records for you.  I'd recommend a new posting requesting exactly what you'd like to discover.

Good luck!

Regards, Emma ;)
