Town is wrong !
« on: Friday 01 December 06 13:15 GMT (UK) »
Following on from Cornelius's occupation, I now discover that Ancestry have the town as Thorden in Berkshire.

As there is not one in Berkshire and the Berkshire is quite clear on the census, can anyone offer a suggestion as to what the town actually is.

Thanks
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Could the town have been involved in a re-drawn county boundary?

Could it be Thornham?

I think Tati is correct. I got this from Wikipedia:

Shrivenham is a village and civil parish in the English county of Oxfordshire (though formerly in Berkshire). It is located at grid reference SU238888 in the Vale of the White Horse, between Swindon and Oxford.

Ok, Thanks again.

I don't know how you do it.

Drives me nutty trying to work some of these out.

Shrivenham was placed in Oxfordshire in the 1974 in the comprehensive reorganisation of local government in England and Wales.

Hi Adrian

Do you have a copy of the program parloc - you can search for parish names when you only know part of the name (& it doesn't have to be the beginning). I find it very handy - noting it is mainly parishes and some names/very small localities may be missing

(tis freeware)
