my nan was Evelyn Gladys Brown, the grandaughter of Fredrick and Elizabeth. Sorry I'm just confusing you!

*slaps self *

oh and no wedding for William! He is just too elusive!

Well, I kind of had you pegged with a zimmer and a hot water bottle if Elizabeth was your nan, but it is possible...

On the 1881 census William is a widower staying with Frederick and Elizabeth Brown. His place of birth is given as India.

hate to throw a spanner in - but the image looks more like Henry than William to me !

Compare it to the Wm on the next line !

Y'know Newfy I think you are right!

I cannot find  Henry born India in 1871, but there is one in Devon in 1861 - not sure if the ages match though  :-[

I think we are back to square one!

you'd also expect him to be enumerated as Father-in-Law - not always the case, but would have helped.

Suggest you follow up on those Parish Registers at Glos Records ?

Not certain here, but I think it will be Bristol Record Office - most south Glos records are there, i believe.

Certainly you need to start again from what you definitely know - give a shout if we can help.

Well thanks for that guys...I guess I'm going to be searching again! Maybe Henry is an uncle that I can tie in somewhere!

*crosses fingers*

Well it explains why I couldn't track a William with that birth date!
