« on: Thursday 21 December 06 10:06 GMT (UK) »
Advice please from SKS on how to apply for a Birth Certificate in Queensland.

I have the full name, date, parents and ref No. Now what do I do? Costs? Can I apply on line?

Hi Gem

Unfortunately no. You can load down a form online and then have to apply by snail mail - to the world's worst/slowest  registry office.

Don't forget to

- provide a copy/scan of photo id
- fill in the section that says you are related to the deceased (even if you are not - I use 3rd cousin twice removed)

http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/home.htm

Like most Qld govt offices they will be closed till the New Year so don't hold your breath waiting for a response.

Suggest to any other relatives if they must come to Australia make it NSW or Victoria  :D  :D

Hello Trish et al

Don't get too tough on Beattie's and front-line Nelly's Brigade troops ......

They must all be triers

Perhaps some should be tried and the others retired!

Start from the top!!!

That lot have been the same since Adam was a boy - nothing to do with Beattie - like all other Qld govts he tried and failed with this lot - The State archives had a perfectly brilliant super fast efficient system for pre 1890 Certificates & then the registry decided why only stuff up post 1890, we'll take over the pre 1890 & make more money to allow us to be more inefficient - the smart state - blah

Do keep checking the web site - there was a story that they do intend to go online - but I have no idea when

Merry Christmas  :)   :)

G'day Trish,

Good on you!  I hope you are not a lone voice.

Now, put your old violin away and see what happens in this smart State.
If something positive happens then maybe I will even discover when my Irish GGrandfather George Gilbert EDMONDS, arrived!

At least I've got his mortal remains in South Brisbane Cemetery.
He died 100 years' ago on 17 December!!

Have a very Merry christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Hey Trish, you forgot to add "most expensive" to your list of berations (if there is such a word, and if there isn't, there should be).

Hi Ruskie

Mainly because they aren't  :)  - although the price did go up about $7 when they took the issuing from the archives.

ACT $38  SA $34 are fighting for that honour and SA has much less information on the early certificates than the Eastern States.

Then there is the NT who charge regardless as to whether the person exists. I have a wonderful signed certificate telling me my person did not die in their state! Such a ridiculous waste of their resources and my money.
