Nothing like the "genealogy high" when you can go from 1841 to 1901 in 30 minutes  :D  :D - your colleague will no doubt become addicted.

Apologies for not finding  Charles in earlier times - lots of places to hide in Devon - I'll pm Tati for a check

regards

Trish

Thanks for calling me, Trish, but this is a job for Valda, methinks  :P

I can't see his birth on the complete index, I can't see ay Corn(e/i/hi)ll BMD for Barnstaple at all, and I certainly can't see him on census !  :-\  :-\  :-\

Immaculate conception, as you say  ???  ;)

Thanks for looking - I also searched  the FULL index - it seems to be the only time period not finished by FreeBDM  :(  -  I wonder what was happening in Devon in the 19th Century - everyone reinvented themselves - including my immigrant!

You'll have to tell your friend that Charles Cornill is definitely a man of mystery Ticker.

Fortunately you have found the marriage, Trish. The cert might reveal further clues  8)

Possible - but he had moved out from home before the marriage - if he is not telling the truth about his birth - the father may be not too accurate either  ???  ??? My only other thought is that he may be much younger than stated - perhaps to get the job in the railways.  I didn't find a Charles Corn(h)ill let alone one born in Devon!

I realise this reply is 10 years after your original query but:

Orlando Cornhill was a witness at the marriage of his sister Selina Cornhill on 1st September 1916 to my grandfather Bertram Wilfred Randle in Cudworth Parish Church.

The address of his & her father, Charles J Cornhill at the time was 130 Barnsley Road, Cudworth.

I can probably give you a bit more info if you are still following this up.
