The Norfolk Marriage Index shows

William Culpitt married Harriett Browne on 9 Jan 1824 in Deopham

then there is another marriage for a William Culpitt to Elizabeth Peel on 10 Oct 1836 in Wymondham.

These could possibly be the same William, and he remaried after Harriett died, so it is possible that Ray has the correct William on the 1851 census.
