Death Certificates
« on: Monday 05 February 07 23:30 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me if the spouses name appears on an English death cert?

It does on the Scottish ones, but I know the English certs can be a bit different.

Thanks.

Janice

All the one's I've sent for don't have a column for spouse, but if it is a woman they sometimes put "widow of..." in the occupation column.

Janice,it would depend on who was giving the details of the deceased,Wife is generally the best informant,Husband next, then children,or so I've read!
There is a very good site for this sort of info;that I only recall as Barbara Dixon,s,she was a Registrar of B.D.Ms at one time I believe.
I have to "Google" for it when needed, sorry!

Thank again for the help you guys are a mine of info  :)

I think I may have found my husbands great grandfather - I'm not sure though.

The wifes name ties in and the dates look reasonable too.

The son Thomas is on one of the Scottish cencus forms I've found, by then he's married and has a family.

All I have to go on is that he was born in England and from his marriage cert that his parents were Thomas and Annie (ms Arkle) Hislop. The fathers occupation is different though, Thomas jnr states his father as a fisherman, except this guy on the English census who I'm asuming may be Thomas snr, is an engineer light buld fitter - no difference!!!   :-\
