Jeanetta(Jane) Goldstein
« on: Sunday 18 February 07 10:49 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for Jeanetta (Jane) Goldstein. Any news of her between 1882 and 1901 would be very much appreciated. Possibly in the Hull area. She was born Jeanetta Grunwald in c1845 in Fordon. Married Simon Cohen and then, after his death,  married  Abraham Mendell Goldstein in 1883.

Have tried to fine Jeanetta but very complicated because of name changes in th censuses and places of birth. Wasn't Jeanetta born in Prussia/Germany and not Yorkshire?Who were her offspring? Were her parents Saul and Esther? Did she have quite a few children to Joshua not Simon Cohen and Nathan was with his grandparents in the 1881 census when Jeanetta was a widow living in Hull? Sorry to bombard you with questions but it is the only way I can start to sort this out!

Hello everybody

I am not sure about this, but in the absence of any feedback, this might be the widowed Jeanette in 1881. If so, it may help to find her (them) on other censuses.

Hi Scarbro

I am obviously following in your footsteps again.

I have to agree with you that the family shown in 1871 in Sheffield at RG10/4679 Folio 125 Page 10 must be the correct family.

The presence of Nathan living with his grandparents (The Greenwalds) in 1881 at 11 Gardener’s Terrace (the house next door to his mother) plus the fact that the grandparents are said to come from Germany, Fordon just cannot be a coincidence.

The death registration for Simon puts his birth year exactly the same as that shown for Joshua on the 1871 entry and so I would conclude that they are probably the same person (using two names).

Having said all that, I cannot readily see them after 1881 but maybe the details which I have put down will assist someone else to find them.

Simon Cohen was Zeaman Cohen according to an entry in a prayer book belonging to Nathan his son. However all records show him as Simon. He committed suicide in 1880 just before the birth of his child Jessie. Jenetta Grunwald/Cohen/Goldstein/Cohen! also used the name Jane. She married Abraham Mendell Goldstein in 1883. She married Mark(s)  Cohen as Jane Goldstein in 1908. I believe he had a 'draper' shop in Great Passage Street Hull. She died in January 1911 still in Great Passage Street. It is between 1883 and 1911 that I can find no record of her. Nathan is also not to be found in 1891. Has anyone any more information about the elusive name changing Jenetta and her son Nathan in 1891? Are any of the people who have replied so far relatives?  ???

I believe that this Rachel Cohen was the daughter of Hyman Cohen and Maria(Goldsmith) born in Sheffield in 1876. The rest of Rachel's family were also in London at 4 ................ Street. Hyman, Maria, Honda(Hinda) Ribskik(Rebekah) and Solech(Zaleck). Incorrect name spellings made them hard to trace. Jeanetta Cohen did have a daughter Rachel listed in the 1881 census born the same year. I wonder if this was really her niece?
