Ellen Quinn
« on: Monday 19 March 07 22:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi, All,
Has anyone any info on Michael and Bridget Quinn.  They lived in Tudhoe Grange, Co Durham.  In the 1901 census they were there with their daughters Mary, Kate and Ellen.  In 1881 they were there too. I know they came from Ireland but am not sure how to find out exactly wherre from.  Michael was born c 1843 and Bridget c 1844.
Regards,
annie.

Annie- Where were children born- England or Ireland? Might narrow down date they left Ireland. It's also possible parents came to England when they were young with their families. Have you looked for them in earlier census records?

Hi, Denmar and Aghadowey,
Thanks for your replies,
I have recently discovered that Bridget and Michael were from Cappagh, Co Tyrone.  All three daughters were born in Co Durham, in 1879, 1882 and 1884.  In 1891 they were living in Tudhoe Grange.
Regards,
Annie.

Hi, All,
I have just acquired the marriage cert of Ellen Quinn and I now know that her mother's maiden name was Hammel.  I assume that Michael Quinn and Bridget Hammell were married in Ireland, as they both came from Cappagh, Co Tyrone.  Can anyone help me find out any more?
Regards,
Annie.

Are you assuming that the marriage took place in Ireland just because they were both from Ireland? Could have travelled separately to England and married there. Have you checked English marriage indexes for a marriage?

I take it that you mean the church record of Ellen's marriage gives her mother's maiden name? Is that also the source of 'Cappagh, Co.Tyrone'?

The place of birth comes from he 1891 and 1901 census returns and the maiden name comes from Ellen's baptism cert.  Sorry, I got my wires crossed there  :-[
You are right, they may have married in England, but I can't find a marriage.
