Hello Romilly

If you are looking for descendants, using google, as mentioned by Jenn, will find many links - some of which may lead to contact with current family, or places such as the NSW Labour party and/or state parliament library may be able to provide the information you require.

Parliament of NSW http://parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/web/common.nsf/V3Home

NSW Labor
http://www.nswalp.com/student/history/

Digitised War service records for
Joseph Henry
Frank Noel
Stanley Redfern

can be found at the national archives

http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html

Search as a guest and place mcgowen in the keyword  and 1914-1918 in the date - all WWI records are now fully digitised.

The BDMs listed by Jenn are at

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births

(births and deaths - & links to marriage screen)

A transcription of any of the death certificates should give the names of surviving children of that person. The actual date of death will often allow funeral/death notices to be found in the Sydney press. A lookup request from  the Rookwood cemetery CD may provide some exact death dates - JST was buried there and his children could be there as well.

The Australian dictionary of biography
http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/adbonline.htm  gives him 7 sons and 2 daughters (as found in the BDMs)

Trish

Hi Trish,

Many thanks for all the helpful Links.

I had thought that three of J.S.T.McGowen's sons had died in WW1, but it looks like only one of them did.

Have now been able to access the Records, - many thanks.

Romilly.
