Ritchie - Sinclair Help needed
« on: Monday 30 April 07 07:44 BST (UK) »
I have recently found out my grandfather James Ritchie Sinclair was actually born John Ritchie

I cannot find a marriage certificate for im with my grandmother Mary Margaret McHattie but have found he was married to an Elizabeth McRobert

Could he have been a bigamist?

Also I believe he had several paternity suites filed against him, are these documented anywhere?

Anyone can help here is a bit more he was born in 16th July 1897 in KelsoRoxburghshire, an illegitimate son of Agnes Ritchie, father unknown?

he married Elizabeth 18th DEC 1922 and had 6 children, he left them for my grandmother and had another 7 children

I have also been told he was in prison  sometime in the 1930s for embezzlement of his father in laws business

He is a total rogue but fascinating any info gratefully received

regards
Pam ???

Hi Pam

You might try searching on the National Archives of Scotland (NAS) site to see whether anything comes up on either a possible divorce or criminal charges for James (or his aliases  ::))

There is this entry for example:

JC26/1930/80:    Trial papers relating to James Ritchie for the crime of embezzlement, uttering forged documents at North of Scotland Bank Ltd, 65 St Vincent Street, Glasgow. Tried at High Court, Edinburgh. Tried at Sheriff Court, Glasgow    Date: 7 Feb 1930    Open

Source: www.nas.gov.uk/

No idea if this is connected but just included it to give you the general idea!

Regards.

Monica
