When I was young, I used to study every coin which came my way. Not just to see its date but to closely examine its design and to detect any differences from others.
I think that was possible because time wasn't so scarce back then. I just about glance at a pony now!!!

hi there,

I can remember my mother using and old washboard to do the washing as well as the old wringer washing machine. My mum still until recently did her cooking on an old wood stove.

My husband wore clogs when they could afford them, and when they could,nt he wore wellingtons to school in the summer, and he tells of going to school, in a dinner jacket , with shiny lapels  that some one had given them, {not with the wellies i hope}  , he was second youngest of a big family, and it was war years, also if any one died in the villiage, his mother was sent for to lay them out.and in that villiage was a very kind lady green grocer, who marked the ration books very faintly in pencil  for them, so they could rub it out, and go again, i think she was in the salvation army and very kind, the good old days, mmm  maybe, regards nora T

 :) :) :)

What I miss about those times is the way children were.

Innocent, they played for hours in magical worlds of cowboys, indians, kings and queens, but also knew responsibility.  From an early age, they were taught obedience and respect; hard work was mandatory. For instance, in our house, there was no such word as 'can't'.

Today - kids rule their parents and society shrugs it's shoulders - last week, a dedicated headteacher in Manchester hung himself due to job related stress.

I have a feeling our ancestors would prefer their good old days to ours.
