Willington PR lookup - marriage MEDLOCK/BERRY
« on: Friday 06 July 07 07:23 BST (UK) »
If someone has access to the Willington transcript I'd be very grateful for a lookup for the marriage on 18 Dec 1795 between Thomas MEDLOCK and Mary BERRY.

I don't expect for a moment that they will be other than "otp" but if Thomas is "of the parish of Sutton" it would make my day!

Many thanks in advance

David

David,    Sorry I cannot 'make your day' as you didn't say 'you feeling lucky, punk' , in the Clint Eastwood/Dirty Harry vernacular.

As I say there is no other detail on that Willington marriage entry, other than it says ' signed "Medock" '. If it makes you feel better there are no other/previous Medlocks in Willington.

But before she married Thomas, Ann Berry nearly married John Rawlins - Banns (Oakley) in 1793, but the vicar records "No marriage, whilst I was waiting here to solemnize the above, the man inlisted for a soldier'.

On the Oakley PR, Banns for 3 Feb 1793, John Rollings & Mary Berry (Willington)

I expect you have the 6 baptisms of the children of Thomas & Mary between 1796 & 1806.  One child Edward was buried 29 Oct 1800. On the latter two baptisms Thomas is described as a labourer.

On the other hand, Mary Berry is the only surviving child of Thomas & Ann Berry, all their other 7 children baptised between 1772 - 1790 all were buried within that timespan. If you want the detail then let me know.

On 23 Oct 1770 is marriage of Thomas Berry to Ann Peat, age 18, with consent of her father James Peat (lic).

Regards
John

Thanks very much for checking all that John. One day, one day......!

See the other Medlock thread on the main Beds board for the background - loads of US LDS descendants of a Gt Staughton Medlock family all claim Thomas Medlock born Sutton 1769 on what seems to be very flimsy evidence (later - no, evidence is too strong a word. There is no evidence. Just supposition), and descendants of the Willington Thomas claim him as well, probably with more justification but no proof. I was hoping you were going to provide it. He was an uncle of my 3xg grandmother.

Oh well, thanks again

David

Hi John

Mary Berry was my GGGGgrandmother, I still don't know if Thomas was the son of David's Alexander Medlock and second wife Elizabeth Ashwell.

As I am stuck with the Medlock connection it would be very interesting to have the Mary Berry and Thomas Medlock details you offered David. Would that be possible?

I also have the Rawlins family in my tree, so would love to know how John Rawlins got on as a soldier! I haven't yet tried to work out if I am connected to him. My GGGgrandmother Caroline Medlock married a James Rawlins!!

Regards Ann (RBC)

Hi John

Thank you once again for all your work on my behalf. What kind of life did Thomas and Mary Berry have? I can't imagine what it must have been like to loose all those children. It would be very interesting to know the causes of death. Two died within a few days of each other so I suppose they could have had an infectious disease.

Thank you also for checking the 1738 marriage record from Potton PR transcript.

One side of my family moved around a lot but the Bedford ancestors seemed to stay put. Besides the Rawlins and Medlocks I also have the Head, Watts,  and Cooper families. so my research for records in and around Bedford is going to taking quite a lot of sorting out. I will try and spend some time in Bedford next year.

Best wishes.

Ann.
