Help with elusive Welsh ancestor!
« on: Saturday 11 December 04 22:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have found William Rogers (born about 1805-Aberystwith) living in Mynniddislwyn on the 1881 census. At this time he was with his wife Margaret (born c1823/9 llanbedr, Merioneth)

I have failed to find him on 1871 and 1891 census and don't have access to 1841, 51 or 61 so am at a dead end. I am hoping someone may be able to help.

Any look ups gratefully received.

Thanks
 :)

Hello
Is William the one born Aberystwyth.  Mon . England
on the LDS 1881,
If so the parish probably should be Aberystruth.
Do you have any details of children so that a search of
earlier years may be narrowed down.

I have searched the Glamorganshire 1841 Census there are 4 matches to the name but  none that fit with the information you have given.

There are 3 matches to the name in 1851 but again nothing that fits in with yours.

There is only 1 match to a William Rogers in 1861 but I do not this one is yours either:

Glamorgan Family History Society 1861 Census CD
4030 047 070  SHEPPARD'S HALL        ROGERS WILLIAM             HD W  53    GLA EGLWYSILAN

Thank you for looking for me.
Yes, it is the William Rogers listed as born in Aberystwith, living in Mynniddislwyn.  He married  Margaret Lloyd in Abercarne on 10.5.1851 and on 17.3.1852 had a daughter,   Elizabeth who was born in Abercarne Mynyddyslwyn, Mon & Glam.

I know he was a widower when he married and he was a lot older than Margaret he being 40 to her 28.  I don't know what children, if any, there were from his first marriage.
Thanks again.
Val Rees :)

Hello Rhys,  Thank you very much - I'm am pretty sure it has got to be my William Rogers in 186l.  The ages and names of the three fit and the area too.  I didn't know if they had any more children because by 1881,  which is the only other trace I have of them, all the children have flown the nest. Elizabeth, my g. grandmother went off to London.
I guess I need to get a birth certificate of one of the children to confirm.

I guess they don't show up in 1871?
Thanks again, I have lots more to go on now.
