1841 Sussex Bravery
« on: Wednesday 17 March 04 17:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi, looking for the wherabouts of JAMES BRAVERY b. 1826.  Horsham, Crawley or Ifield might be possibilities.  I believe his brother, Henry was lodging at Doomsday Green, Horsham in the 1841 census, but James and the rest of the family have eluded me :(
Thank you,
Jane

Hi there Jane

Have just finished dong some 'rescue archaeology' in Horsham Parish Church yard.
They have bult a new vestry - some of the existing graves and monuments had to be moved and the bones re-interred.  I surveyed, recorded, transcribed and photographed the area concerned.

I was provided with a 1952 survey of the yard compiled by Donald Slyfield for reference, and noticed the following entry:

Memorial No 548
BRAVERY Richard, 17th April 1851, Aged 72 years.

As your James and Henry were born in Horsham - thought it might be a relative

Chris in 1066Land

PS - This is not a Census reply, so Kazza will probably move it.

No Chris,   :D

As we are unable to provide Jane with helpful census information,  and she is already in my spreadsheet,  I am quite happy for you to give her your memorial information here.    ;D

Hi Dylan,
My interest in the BRABY name is really in the 1700's and before, in Sussex.  As in a few lines from that area the name changes from BRABY to BRAVERY from about the mid 1700s to late 1700s.  Many of the early BRABY's retained the name as they moved into Surrey.  I don't have any particulars on this Harriet BRABY but I will keep my eyes open for you.  Do you know who her parents were?  That might help.  I do seem to have accumulated quite a bit of information on these Surrey BRABY's, some going to Lambeth & some sticking around the Guildford area.
If you can give me more information we might get lucky!
Jane
