Another possibility would be the electoral registers, IF you know where they lived in later years, i.e. the 1920s AND assuming they were both still alive then.

Another thought .......

If you think that they may have been having children 1911+, you could try looking for any BECKEY births 1911+ with a SMITH or SEAGERS as the maiden name of the mother in the index.

Of course, this may not give conclusive evidence but it has worked for me before.

Well .... future researchers will not be so lucky, at least here in Canada.  As a result of a recent Supreme Court decision, from now on, the spouse may well be William Carter!
