I'll alter Ahnen.de to SwissGill, too.

sez she ;D

Couldn't find a way to do it but, in Ahnen.de my user name is Gillian Schuler. It worked in a dog forum I'm subscribed too, but the above was for the cats.

I'm posting this not because I have anything useful to add (I wish!) but because I DESPERATELY want to find out about my great-grandfather who left absolutely no clues as to his identity, except a German name. He 'appeared' and died between censuses, and gave no father on his marriage certificate.

So I'm following this thread with interest - and really hope there could be a real bilingual site some time in the future.

The german genealogy forum:  Ahnenforschung.org at http://forum.genealogy.net/forum/index.php

Maybe Bob can write an instruction about the meaning of all our cathegorys and buttons in english. We can publish it in our forum and Bob can do the same here.

Will do  :)  ASAP  :)

Bob

OK, here it is.  Some of it is a bit "wooden" as I haven't done much genealogy in german, and I'm not sure if I'm describing all the boards accurately, but no doubt Rossi14 and Nathalie (*silberfischen*) will help me to correct it.

I've written the main board names like this
and the sub-board names like this
and my comment about equivalent RootsChat boards like this

I hope this helps, for anybody thinking of using the forum to look for german and east european ancestors.

Thanks so much for all that work making the translations. My poor overworked German dictionary and I thank you very much.

Hello Berlin Bob,

Well done, a fantastic job.
Thank you for the Translations, which must have been very time consuming.  I am sure that all 'RootsChat' Members appreciate all that you do, here on this great website.

I know that I will find the Translations of these websites very helpful, in researching my Family History.

Even last evening I was having a search around on the,
'Niedersachsisches Landarchiv' website, assisted by a few directions.

Thanks again Bob.

Also thank you to Lambendsor (aka IGS), for starting this Topic, it certainly took off, for the betterment of all.

Hi Bob

This is a fantastic contribution. I know how much work goes into translations.

A thank you from me, too.
