Churches in the Langdale area..?

Good morning Rootschatters......Wonder if anyone can help, trying to find which Churches would be available for Baptisms,weddings etc; for the Langdale valley in Westmorland..
My husbands family seem to have been there since 1800 .the names Walthwaite,Elterwater.Lingmoor,Langdale keep coming up.
Would love to know which Churches might hold the records for this area..

appleby used to be the county town of westmoreland.st laurences church in appleby may have the records if not they may be held in kendal. hope this helps

Langdale church records for 1799-1871 are on the IGI - www.familysearch.org - so you should be able to find baptisms and marriages on that.  Kendal Record office will hold the originals.  If you look at www.genuki.com you may discover more about the area.

It will be on Genuki or a first move would be to google it.    I was most impressed by the knowledge of another rootschatter recently  and she said that all she does is use google!

On my G gran's marriage cert. she was married at Holy Trinity Church, (Chapel Stile) Langdale by Ambleside.  I visited recently and took some photographs, it's a lovely church.  She was living at Colwith at the time, whcih is near the Langdales.

Hello Jean..Sorry only just got your message..how strange..
Just been trying to prod my husbands memory..He lived at Chapel Stile as a child, but thinks he was to young to remember...typical.

My husbands family are from the area....the names Stables/Barrow/Cowman ring any bells. The Stables family married into a lot of local families..including Rigg/Bowness/Youdell/Salkeld and Myers..

That's strange ...I have Riggs' in my family as well ....... but not from that area.

My Riggs' come from Crosby Ravensworth, in Westmorland.
