Simmonette WHEELER
« on: Saturday 15 September 07 11:13 BST (UK) »
Can anyone find Simonette WHEELER after 1861 census. She was born Buckland in 1838, parents Thomas and Caroline. Have her in 41, 51 and 61 with her parents.

She must be around somewhere as she did not die until 1929.

Hi,

Do you have any other info, such as a marriage that might help find her?

Thanks Paula

She died unmarried in 1929 aged 91.

Can't find her anywhere at the moment. Her name though should stand out.

Hi Ian,

I couldn't help but notice that in 1861 she was a Governess .. .. I'm wondering whether she might have travelled abroad in later years?

Kind regards,

Pels  :-\

I've found this entry on Ancestry.

Emmonet Whalse (sounds like a classic transcription error to me!) listed in the 1871 census for Finsbury (London).
She's a 30 year old visitor, unmarried, born Buckland Berkshire.

What do you think?

Now here's a thought .......

Do you think that Simonette might also have been known as Esther?  If you say 'Simonette' slowly (pronouncing it 'Simonetter'), then the last two syllables sound like 'Esther', (sort of!).

I can find reference to an Esther Wheeler born Buckland 1841 in the later censuses. (I know it's not quite the exact birth year).

It has already been confirmed that there is a baptism record for Simonette.  But is there a baptism for an Esther Wheeler in Buckland too?  If there are both, then you can totally discount this idea!

I've had a look at the "Emmonet Whalse" in 1871.   I think it says Wheeler as the tail of a "Y" from the line above cuts through the surname.

That said, it could just be a case of wanting it to be.  ???
