Delays to Online Certificate Requests

Not quite sure where on this message-board I saw a reference to a delay in receiving a recently requested Certificate but thought I would just mention that I ordered two Certificates on-line on 2nd December.

I was advised that the anticipated dispatch date would be 14th December - it used to be something like 4/5 working days! Neither has been received so far, no doubt, due to the large amount of post currently being handled by the Royal Mail in the UK.

On a positive note, however, I entered extra 'checking reference' details at the time of my request. As I have not been notified of a refund, at least I know that the Certificates I ordered were the ones I wanted and that, when they eventually arrive,  they will almost certainly add some more information to my files!

Dear Lyn,
I have experienced delays with the GRO also. It's due to an onsaught of on-line orders ensuing the success of the BBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are' program (as it's nearing X-MAS time the Royal Mail will undoubtedly be busy!!). I, for example, ordered three certs on Nov. 25th. First-time orderers (not me, of course ) have been requesting an average of 5 certs per order!!
The first of my three arrived two weeks later as it was handled by the less-busy Overseas Dept. at the GRO, the second arrived last Friday and the third today. You can expect your orders to arrive separately

Like you, I have ordered quite a number of Certificates on-line and the service has always been very good. In fact, a while ago - before the TV series WDYTYA? - there was a notice on the website saying that there was a slight delay in dispatch owing to pressure of orders.

Despite that, I received the Certificates I had requested in record time!

However, as you say, the popularity of the recent TV series - WDYTYA? - has made a big difference to the workload at the GRO.

Not to worry, the Certificates will arrive in the post - eventually!

I too have been waiting for certificates from GRO since end of november, having read this note though im prepared to wait that little bit longer.... if my patience lasts!

On a brighter note i did recieve 3 certs from the local registry in record time! It took just over a week to get from here in Oz to Uk then back again!!

Talk about fast!!

LOL, BC!! I hope yours arrive soon and yeah, local register offices are operating as normal as far as I can tell too. I've order 1 from Stoke and 1 from Plymouth which arrived real fast.

I ordered a marriage certificate from the GRO on 11th December and it arrived today. Very good service.
And even better it was the right marriage.
