SNOOKS and STONES!
« on: Tuesday 13 November 07 17:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I wonder if someone would be able to help. I have been researching my family tree and my 5th Great Grandfather was a John Stone (amended from Charles Stone 13/11/07) of Yatton Somerset (born abt 1761). I have a couple of confirmations that his wife was Ann, and one source from from familysearch.org (AFN: 1PP5-KCJ) that says this Ann was actually an Ann Snook (born abt 1840 Yatton(?) Somerset). Therefore I was wondering whether anyone is able to confirm that Ann Snook is in fact my 5th Great Granmother and if so if there are any further details you could supply.

Thank you

Umm. A bit confuzzled here. Are you saying that Charles Stone (born c1761) and Ann Snook (born c1840) were husband and wife?

Sorry for the confusion!.

It should say John Stone not Charles Stone! (Charles Stone Was John Stone's grandson (via Isaac Stone))

Therefore I am trying to get independemt verification that Ann Snook was John Stone's wife.

Sue, something else I have noticed. The 25th May 1762 at Brockley - Banns I assume refers to their marriage date. Which is OK for Ann as she would have been around 22, but for John I have a birth year of abt 1761 which would make him 1. Have I misread this and/or do you think the birth year for John is incorrect?

Yes Roy that is the marriage date.  I`d noticed the year of birth you gave for John was the same but wondered if that was incorrect, either that or it is a different John  ???

I have had another search on familysearch.org and come up with a John Stone (b.abt 1756) married to Ann (Stone) (b. abt 1760), both from Yatton. Marriage about 1781 in Yatton. This would make more sense as their son Isaac was born in 1782.

Sue, if you have time and access, would it be possible for you to look up Parish Records to see is there is a record of John Stone and Ann getting married in Yatton in 1781 to check Ann's surname? As John marrying Ann Snook in 1762 must be a different John and Ann.
