Sue :-\

I cannot readily see the following children of George and Elizabeth Tew after the 1881 census. There are some possibilities but I have no great confidence that they are the right people.

Henry born c1865
Elizabeth born c1867
Annie born c1870
Fanny born c1872
Catherine born c1873

Nor can I readily see the following children of John and Elizabeth after 1881.

Henry born c1843 (I cannot see him in 1871 either)
Thomas born c1845
Frederick born c1853

Perhaps it might be beneficial if you were to start specific new topics for them to see if anyone else can find them on the 1891 and 1901 censuses.

If you state what it shows on the 1881 census for them (and give the census reference) and ask for look ups, I am sure that several other site members would be pleased to try and find them.

 :D

I have (I think) managed to find the other children of George and Elizabeth and details for them will follow.

Incidentally, are you aware that on Genes Reunited there are three people (called Stephanie, Stephen and Carol) who seem to have the family of Thomas Tew and Annie Fairbrother included on their family trees?

Thanks DS, you have made progress for me. I am not a full member of Genes Reunited at the moment.  Will get around to it next year.
Herbert Tew was the only brother that did not come to NZ in 1912 he married Gertrude Petty and died in Auckland 1946, Edwin was a name I have not came across before, but my Aunty said that would of been her uncle Bob.
All of the Tew son's in NZ joined the forces for WW1, and all survived, married and had children.
There was a rumor of a scroll or family bible that went missing after it was brought over from England, this certainly would of had more info about the family.

Hi Sue

Thank you for your Personal Message.

With regard to your first question, the 1841 and 1851 censuses for Thomas and Mary Tew do not show any additional people living in the household. It is just them and their son, William, as I showed earlier (Reply #25).

On the second question, I have not been able to find anything more than you already know about William Merricks and Mary Johnson. Perhaps if you start a specific new topic on the Staffordshire board it might attract someone who has access to some other Staffordshire records which are not available online.

Sorry :-\

Thankyou Mike
This helps to confirm Johns parents.
Do you think the Tew family lived in Leire for some time?
Not to certain as to when the villiage came about, but the family where there until the early 1900's.
Thanks for your help.
