Lizzy May DOWZOD is how she is transcribed, age 23, Cook to the Benson family, as you so rightly say.  As you also say, her name looks like DOWZARD on the household form.

Yes, Kintree, that's the one.  Coincidentally, I think one of my relatives was working for the same family at the time of the 1901 census.

Hi Kooky,
the link below may help if your Dowzard family
name is Huguenot in origin as you suspect.

Kooky,
Have you considered writing to some Dowzards still living in Ireland?  I did a Google search on the name and came up with three pages of results for Ireland only.  Some of the results gave names and addresses of Dowzards in Ireland, one of whom, a music teacher in Wesley College, has fared well on the Rate My Teacher website.

Dear Kooky

I see you know about the following  but check it in the newspaper it might throw up something

The Irish Times    22nd August 1889 P.1 death of Edward Douzard (sic)......address given as No.28 Cork St.
(Note there was also a No.28 1/2    )

Hope this might help

Thank you. I do know about that one. Edward was my gt gt gr father. His daughter Susan married John Edward Boshell in 1874,and had my gr mother Annie Boshell in 1879.
This is the one complete cutting in the family bible I have. I have his death details.
It was the Dowzard death in 1893 that I was puzzled about.

Hi Kooky,
a long time since your last post.
I just joined the forum

My wife's grandmother was susan dowzard. I think she was the niece of your susan.
Our susan was born Dec 1888, to Edward Dowzard (lets call him junior)and Mary O'Grady in Dublin. Their marriage record shows his father as Edward Dowzard (senior), a hall porter in Bank of Ireland.
Your information about him is very useful
Dowzard, Hurley, Johnston, Cleland, Sillery, Hanbury, Sparrow, Parker, Hall
