Burial Over Wyresdale lookup request
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 22:19 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate the burial of a female with the last name of Harrison who would have been buried probably at Over Wyresdale between the years 1745 and 1767.  Unfortunately I do not know her first name.  I do know that she had a daughter Elizabeth who is listed in the 1767 Returns of Papists residing in Wyresdale, age 21.  I know this is a vague request but would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,
Phil

I've only got the MIs for Over Wyersdale Christ Church,
Quermore Methodist and Quermore St Peters
but no Harrisons at this date.

She may be still buried here but not have a gravestone

Hello Phil

There is only one female listed between 1745 and 1767 in Over Wyresdale, it is:

Margaret Harrison buried 3rd March 1764 Christ Church, Over Wyresdale. No age at death is stated.
Elizabeth is not listed under Harrison so either she married or moved area.

Hope this helps.
Amanda :)

Thanks Jinks.  You are correct -- no Catholic church in Wyresdale.  The family I am researching in this area is the Bamber family.  They were mainly Catholic however in the late 1600s some of them were attending the Quaker Meeting House in Abbeystead.  Since Wyresdale had no Catholic church of its own, the Catholics that resided there for the most part attended the churches in Scorton, Lancaster, Garstang (Bonds), and Claughton near Garstang.  Wyresdale was fairly remote so all of the families are connected somehow -- family names were Winder, Cragg, Townson, Robinson, Drinkall, etc.

Great!  I find this area of Lancashire fascinating.  Have you seen the book 'Our Roots' by Georgina Fandrey?  (the link is  http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=2365 )
It gives a wonderful insight to how our ancestors lived in this time and place.

What is your Drinkall connection?  I have had a difficult time trying to untangle this family.  Too many Nicholas' and Marmadukes.  My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Thomas Bamber married Ann Drinkall in 1773.  Do you have a website with your family data?  If you want to write me direct my email is (*)

Thank you so much for the link to "Craggs of Greenbank", PhilTom. I have just spent all morning reading through some of it. I was meant to be doing all sorts of other things...but I couldn't drag myself away. Photo's, diary entries, and a very readable text.

You have made my day!
