ENGLISH family - COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 22 March 08 00:02 GMT (UK) »
Have spent hours trying to find this family anywhere after 1910 without much luck. Have names, birthdates, etc. and only located 1 son in U.S.

Richard ENGLISH (born c1867 U.S.) m.(13 Mar.1890 Co.Derry) Jane Milliken (born 1869 Co.Derry), son of James English & Elizabeth Grissam (she alive 1901).
Lived at Crevolea, Aghadowey, Londonderry. in Feb.1910 farm for letting then in Aug.1910 farm for sale (for Richard English who is going to Canada).
Children (all born Ireland):
1. William born 19 Apr.1890
2. Robert Milliken** born 6 May 1891
3. James*** born 12 June 1893
4. Elizabeth "Bessie" born 23 June 1895
5. Annie born 11 Aug.1897
6. Ellen born 12 Dec.1899
7. David McKee born 1 Apr.1902
8. Jane born 28 July 1904
9. Richard Thomas born 8 Apr.1907
10. Samuel born 18 Aug.1908

** Robert Milliken English- found WWI Draft Reg. Card, 1920 & 1930 U.s. census & WWII Draft Reg. Lived Radnor, Delaware, Pennsylvania.
*** James English born 12 June 1893 died June 1979 in SSDI is a possibility.

Have looked for English family leaving U.K. on FindMyPast, in Canada 1911 census (possibilty for Robert in Saskatchewan), Ellis Island, Canadian Soldiers WWI, 1920 & 1930 U.S. census.

Am beginning to think they left Ireland in 1910 by swimming across the Atlantic and didn't arrive in Canada until after 1911! Can anyone see them anywhere?

Today I found a bit more information on the family and now suspect they didn't get to Canada after all.
Samuel ENGLISH, youngest son, born 1908, was a famous football player.
By 1915 his father, and probably the rest of the family, were in Glasgow area.

Will now ask for this to be moved to Scotland.

Hello

Jane English (Milliken) died in District of Old Kirkpatrick in the County of Dunbarton- in November 1956.  Definitely 'your' ancestor.

Have a copy of her death entry from SP just now.  Son David Mckee English living in Clydebank was witness.  Please send a pm with e-mail address.

Regards,  Steve   :O)

Many thanks to Piglet for sending me death certificates for both Richard and Jane English which confirm that the family did go to Scotland and not Canada after all.
And to Grub for moving this post for me yesterday.

Yes, I did find lots more details about the English family I was looking for in this thread. Don't have my notes handy but can't recall a Mary in that family at the moment. Do you think there's a connection?

Mary was born when the family moved to Glasgow. There is a definite connection. Which member of the family are you related to? I can send you what I have by email if you are interested in finding out more.

I have Sam as 10th child born 1908 Crevolea but was told a younger child was born in Scotland- do you know Mary's birthdate? (am hoping it will verify something I've just about proved but no one else in the family seems to want to believe).
