Can anyboby find a link here??
« on: Sunday 23 March 08 18:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone.

Myself and a relative have been trying to find a link between two Salmon families.

The family members that seem to think they are related are:

Sir Nowell Salmon 1835-1912 VC Admiral of the Fleet
and
Henry Roope Pomeroy Salmon 1865-1932

The reason that we think there is a link is that at Nowell Salmons funeral one of the attendants is listed as Mr Pomeroy Salmon cousin

Also  Nowell Salmon is listed as an executor to Henry Roope Pomeroy Salmons father Henry Thomas Salmons will.

If you check out the pdf files i have attached, you will see that i have lots on both families, BUT can't find a link, anybody any ideas.

NB please have a look at the files as i wouldn't want anybody to waste time on things i already have.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Kev. ;D

Hi,

You will probably need to go back further.
Cousin could mean second cousin (as I have found)

You give the father of Thomas Stokes Salmon (b.1803) as Thomas Stokes. So where does the name 'Salmon' come from? Who was his mother? You state Thomas Stokes Salmon was Thomas Stokes only son, but were there any daughters?

You give the name of Emma Gould, sister; and Robert J Gould, brother in law; so who is the Martha Salmon, married to John Gould in 1803 (see IGI) at Wokingham Berkshire?

If you are looking for cousins, then you need to check for all brothers and sisters.

Were there any other children born to Thomas Salmon and Sarah Adams?

There are other Salmon children baptised at St Olave, Southwark, albeit 20 years after your Thomas Peter Dod Salmon. Are they connected?

Hope this gives you some ideas for further research,

Regards

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply.

Thomas Stokes Salmons (1803) father was Thomas Stokes Salmon(1771), its a typo. His mother was Mary Pratt.

The PDF files were sent to me by my cousin, as i haven't entered Nowell Salmon into my tree due to not finding a definate connection, so there may be some minor errors.

But we have found some great and detailed info.

From the information that we can find online we know of no other brothers and sisters for any of them, hoping that maybe we have missed out one and provide the link.

Unsure of the Martha Salmon, have seen that and can't be sure where she fits in

Thanks for the ideas, will try and fit Martha in and check the St.Olave births.

Thanks again.

Hi Kev !

Did you ever check this guy out ??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._L._N._Salmon

I only mention him because I saw this ....

Quote
Interestingly, the "Nowell" in Salmon's name is an acknowledgment of his grandfather's brother Nowell Salmon who served with the British Navy rising to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet and receiving the Victoria Cross for his gallantry during the so-called "Lucknow Indian Mutiny" in November 1857 during the British occupation of India.

Hello Kev,

By chance - do you have any information on John Miller Salmon and a Richard Miller Salmon - of Westmoreland Jamaica that you can share?  I found some information on the Familysearch site and I am trying to see the connection between John Miller Salmon and Richard Miller Salmon if their connection is John Salmon.  On the marriage certificate of John Miller Salmon he named John Salmon as his father and Richard Miller Salmon witnessed the marriage but I am not sure if John and Richard are brothers - or cousins - or uncle/nephew?  the only thing I found on Richard Miller is his baptism record.  Do you have any information on either John Miller or Richard Miller?  It appears that you have quite a bit of information on the Salmons of Jamaica.  Thanks Ann
