Mary Asplin died at sea on the voyage,02 July 1850, so that's all the info we have.

Sackfield arrived with 2 children Alice 13 & Elizabeth 1.

Doh!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, it was mentioned earlier, might be a bit difficult to find her origins then. Best to get the marriage cert, in the hope dads name is listed.

I think I need to get birth cert for Alice & Marriage for Sackfield Mary as you suggest, may give some more info.

I have always been keen to find out what Mary's name was and I think from all your help, I am pretty certain this is her, plus all the other bits that I now have.  I am sure that this is our Sackfield even though it is spelt Aspland.  Sackfield doesn't appear too often in other names, it was Sackville in earlier generations.  The story goes that he could read but not write when he arrived in Australia.  Didn't seem to have any difficulty obtaining wives though!!!!!

Hi.  I've just joined this site and spotted your interest in Sackville Aspland.  I live in Over, Cambridgeshire and have researched many of the old village families here.  You may be interested to know where the name Sackville comes from!  It was the name of one of our Lords of the Manor, Sackville Wade, gentleman, who was Lord here from about 1635 until his death in 1676.  He was a Notary Public, born in Strood, Kent.  I have only found two people who used his name for their sons!  One was a friend of his called Thomas Bridgeman, who had a son Sackville Bridgeman, and the other was John Asplin who baptised his son Sackville in 1740 at Over.  That child died in 1747, and he baptised another son Sackville in 1753.

My mother is related to the Asplin family that still live in Over.  My mother's descent is through the marriage of Sackville Asplin and Elizabeth Edwards, married at Over in 1797.  This Sackville was the son of the above Sackville.

If interested, I could let you have all the births, deaths and marriages for the Aplands/Asplins that I know of.

Thanks for your message!   I would be very interested in the births, deaths & marriage information you have.  Our australian family are descended from Sackville & Sarah Taylor, I believe, from the informatin that I gathered from other researchers.  Interesting information re the name SAckville.  I believe John Asplin 1700 married Ann Bridgeman daughter of Sackville & Ann Bridgeman, does that sound correct?  The Sackfield that  came to Australia in 1850 is where we started here.  The name Sackfield carried on until our uncle died a few years ago.

Thanks again Julie

Hello Fen Tiger,
My Auntie is an Asplin and descends from Elizabeth Edwards and Sackville Asplins daughter Jemima. Is there any way she could see the birth, death and marriage information you have on the family? Is Auntie Val distantly related to your mother?
thanks
