Denny (Denny sausages) COMPLETED
« on: Monday 31 March 08 22:21 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to trace a living Denny that was part and maybe still is part of the Denny sausage company, which is still going very strong in Ireland, but no more in the UK. The Denny's lived and owned quite a bit of Little Horwood, Buckinghamshire, England and lived at Horwood house.

Unfortunately, I am not related to them !

However, some people of Little Horwood would very much like to get in contact with a descendant of the Denny family.

I have a Frederick Denny (born Waterford) who married Maude Marion Quilter on 10/05/1888 Sandhills, Bletchingley, Surrey, England.

The Denny's country house was built in 1912 in Little Horwood (Horwood House).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horwood_House

The Denny's sold up in the 1940's and I believe moved back to Waterford, Ireland. This may be a tall order, but someone may have some past knowledge or some really useful resources.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Best wishes,

David

Not sure what the situation is with the company but if you can get a phone number (on their website?) it wouldn't do any harm to ring the company in Ireland and ask if any of the family are still around.
My mother-in-law was connected to an old linen firm in Northern Ireland and I rang one day and was given the contact details of the managing director's uncle who was retired. He'd done lots of research on their branch and between the two of us we were able to put together a large family tree.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks that is very kind,

I have contacted them, but thought that as they as USA they are not related. Could not find a trace in Ireland. Guess they moved to the USA where there is more potential  to earn money than the British Isles... and bigger eaters  ;D

Best wishes,

David

Hello All,

Managed to find a living descendant through www.peerage.com

He is the grandson, and has accepted to open up a Fete in Little Horwood.

Many thanks,

David :D

Hello Park,

I really can't inform you of a living person as its against rootschat rules. It has already been mentioned to me that I cannot enquire about living descendents. I am very sorry. However, I can say that if you find the children of the two below (1901 census will do...I don't have it to hand) one of the girls married a Baron from Great Brickhill, and it is their son that you need to contact. He is not a Denny by name, and may not be able to help you.

Frederick Denny (born Waterford) who married Maude Marion Quilter on 10/05/1888 Sandhills, Bletchingley, Surrey, England.

Kind regards,

David

hi david,

you can exchange personal information about living people by PM(personal message). these messages are totally private and cannot be seen by anyone else, only by the sender and the recipient. park would have to make 2 more posts(i think) before he can use this.

the denny's factory in portadown,county armagh is still operating today. there are a lot of people in the area who would have very fond memories of denny's :) apart from one thing that is, the smell! there was a rhyme we used to say when i was growing up;

portadown's a nice wee town
but the smell of denny's would knock you down  ;D

i have to add i dont think it's that bad today!
