Recognise WW2 badge?

Does anyone recognize this badge on my grandfather's beret?
We thought he was in the army but it looks like RN to me on the badge which would surely indicate Navy??

What do the letters stand for, I cant really make the letters out even?

Just quite surprised we thought he was in the army!!!!!!
Do you know how i would be able to get any service records? I only have his name no idea of his service number, does that mean i wouldn't be able to trace his records?
