T W Brown
« on: Tuesday 13 May 08 18:11 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to get information on my Granfather Thomas William Brown   Born 25 August  1877
at 10 Kings Square Sykes Street Hull East Yorkshire. He marriedMary Ann Glew December 26th 1901 he was in the first world war and I think it is him on the CWGC site as private TW Brown 11522 6th Bn., East Yorkshire Regiment who died on 28th January 1917 I also found him in the medal roll list but as no address was given I can't be certain I wonder if any one can tell me how to get a death certificate and if it will have a address or next of kin on it
 His son My Father was born 21st October 1902 they were then living at 7 sidwell street Hull my dad was suppose to have about 12 brothers and sisters but I have no Infor on them
 my grandmother remarried in1939 to a Edwind Sulston but that is all I know
 I do hope I have not confused everyone one but as you can see I don't have much to go on I will look forward to hearing from anyone with any infor no matter how little
Thanks

do you mean :~

BROWN Thomas   born.  HARTLEPOOL  enlisted.  MIDDLESBROUGH    PRIVATE  25186   died. 17/1/1917    ALEXANDRA PRINCESS OF WALES OWN (YORKSHIRE REGIMENT) (Army)   6TH BATTALION

he was killed in action
 p.o.d F& F

he should have a death certificate.....  if they found the body  :-\
a death certificate acts as a license for the undertaker to dipose of the body.
a person could notbe buried without one.
however i don't know if there were 'special circumstances' with regards to it being a war at the time.

Hi Waterloo

Regarding the "civil" side of your enquiry - do you have certs for either of the marriages you mention, or for your father's birth?

Some idea of occupation would be helpful, plus anything else you know in order to identify which family of BROWNS, since there are likely to be plenty!

I will move this to the WWI board, for specialist help with that aspect.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

i found another Thomas Brown that also sadly died ithe war, this one is more likely to be yours (if yours i=did die) as his p.o.b is listed as Hull

these Thomas Browns have middle names of William but the wrong p.o.b

BROWN Thomas William   b. SHARROW YORKS   enlisted SHEFFIELD  PRIVATE 11522    THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT   6TH BATTALION   died  28/1/1917

    BROWN Thomas William Edward  b. SUNDERLAND DURHAM   enlisted do.  PRIVATE  52232       THE PRINCE OF WALESS OWN (WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT)   1/5TH BATTALION died  20/11/1917

good question
~~~~~
Glew is nota very common name so i would think the children would belong to the same set of parents unless you have another female Glew marrying a Brown at the same time in the same area  :-\
good find Pauline
there are a few other Glew/Brown births but not in Sculcoates
BROWN Jack    Glew   Beverley.9d   139   2   1918
BROWN Jessi    Glew   Guisborough.9d   960   3   1914
BROWN William    Glew   Keighley.9a   275   2   1913
as both Jack Brown i have found here and  Elizabeth Brown Pauline listed were bornt he same atr of the same year it does now look as if there was another Glew / Brown couple around  :-\
