Census CD's
« on: Friday 21 January 05 07:17 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know what the best thing is to do about the various Census Cd's that one buys and doesn't need.  I see that there are notices re selling these discs on displayed on S&N - I can appreciate that splitting boxes may be frowned upon but selling whole boxes surely not?   I find this all very confusing - surely people who carry out research for others are restricted by the conditions written on the boxes?

You see quite a lot of unwanted or no longer needed family history items on ebay these days.

The items include :- fiche, cd's readers, maps, family bibles and other items family historians use or need.

I have bought quite a lot of fiche for my areas of research and found the costs reasonably cheap, even though you have to bid for the items.

If you don't have access to a fiche reader I think your local library will allow you to use theirs

Thanks, I'll remember that. Its cheaper to buy fiche from my local FHS than the books.

A couple of months ago I saw a whole set on Hampshire, sell for more than it would have cost to buy new, on Ebay?!!?  I gather their is a problem on Ebay with some sellers selling copies, which I would not buy myself as this could stop records you pay for being transcribed. Saying that selling on legal copies, I don't see as a problem, split or whole set.
