Robert Welsh Bissett Rusell & Robert Welsh Bissett

I dont know if anyone can prove or disprove that Robert Welsh Bissett Russell and Robert Welsh Bissett are one and the same person.  The information I have is that
Robert Welsh Bissett Russell: was born c1877 in Glasgow (birth cannot be found), his mother was Janet Russell nee Robson (sometime Robertson) his father was Joseph Russell who was an Iron Turner (according to RWB Russell's marriage certificate  - Margaret Hamilton in 1911).  Robert married Margaret Hamilton 18th Dec 1911 in Shettleston.
I have the 1891 Census for 338 Duke Street, Glasgow, head of family was Janet Russell age 50 a widow, her son Robert Russell age 13, daughter Catherine age 11 and Catherine Robertson (nee Munro) mother age 83 widow.  According to the family RWB Russell was supppose to have died in Glasgow sometime 1930/31.  Occupation: Railway goods guard/Regimental sergeant major (Family story)

Robert welsh Bissett:born 21st Sept 1877 in Troqueer, Dumfries, mother: Janet Bissett, Grandmother Janet Bissett(not sure this is right!), he married 1st Robyn Gardner Kirk in 1910, on the marriage certificate it mentions the grandmother:Janet Robson (Robertson this seems odd mentioning grandparent!)
Robyn Gardner Kirk died in Aug 11th 1910, then he married Margaret Hamilton in 8th Dec 1911(?). On RW bissetts death certificate: widower of Robyn Gardner Kirk & Margaret Hamilton 1959 Dumfries. On RW Bissett's marriage certificate to Robyn Garder Kirk, it gives the mothers name as: Janet Bissett nee Robson & the father as James Bissett (Mason).  I have his death certificate: 6th April 1959 age 81 in Dumfries.  His occupation was Railway Goods Guard/Navy/Army canteen assistant.

I am desperate to find out if this is one and the same person or are we mixing the information up! How do I go about finding out.  As you can see there are many similarities , between these two including occupation and mothers & grandmothers name.  How do I sort this out?  Regards Trish

Have you found either of them on the 1881 census with their family/families?

The only Robert Bissett I can find with a mother Janet is this one

However - there is one on the 1891 with a mother Jane and he was b 1876 Glasgow.  If you track the family back to 1881 - mother is Jeannie and there is no Robert!!

That certainly is interesting and will keep on file, but dont know if that is correct,  this problem has been trashed about abit, trying for some time to sort it out.  Regards Trish

What I am trying to do is prove or disprove the link between Robert Welsh Bissett Russell and Robert Welsh Bissett, being one and the same person.
After the above census I cannot find Robert Russell any where.  There is similarities between Robert Russell & Robert Bissett, birth date, Janet Robson (Robertson) both being married to Margaret (Maggie) Hamilton.

There is no birth for Robert Welsh RUSSELL in the age range you are looking for. The answer may lie in the Marriage records and if you view them on SP it should give parents names.

The Robert that you have with mother Janet in 1891. This looks like the family entry in 1881:

You have the family in 1891. This looks like the family in 1901. Interesting to note young Robert's occupation:

On Ancestry's WW1 records, there is an entry for a Robert W Bisset, age 18 and 1 month, a millworker from Troqueer (date of military discharge 1894, after only 3 days service). Mother Janet Bissett (next of kin), living at 131 High Street Dumfries.

This looks to be this Robert's 1891 census entry with family:
