Hi

The 1881 census confirms Samuel's birthplace as Ystrad, Cardigan so I will check earlier ones

There is no Samuel Davies b Ystrad on any of the earlier censuses nor is there one with a father called Joshua

I found an 1851 entry for a 5 yr old Samuel Davies b Cardigan - no specific place mentioned.  His mother was Frances aged 27 b Cardigan who was a widow and a marine store dealer

I can't find a marriage between a Joshua Davies and a Frances.

1851 has eldest son Thomas aged 8 then Samuel then Benjamin who was only 10 months old and there is this death on freebmd

Deaths Mar 1851

DAVIES  Joshua    Cardigan  27 27

Hi CaroleW,

Many thanks for all your hard work on my behalf.  I guess that I will have

to give up on this branch of my tree - don't know if the Cardigan family is

the correct one and I have no way of verifying them.

Thanks again
