I am hoping that it is short for Ned because I have found a funeral card with details of an Edward Jarman's funeral in 1900.

My Dad has since told me that his mother's family were related to a line of Jarman's.

I'm just off to  start another new topic to see if someone out there can identify Ned's uniform.

For some reason I couldn't post a reply at your query about the uniform so am repling here.  The uniform looks like that of an officer/captain of an ship.  Was your Ned a sailor/merchant seaman?   Leagen
