Maesteg Cemetery
« on: Friday 01 August 08 14:03 BST (UK) »
I have recently discovered that an ancestor of mine is buried somwhere in Maesteg. It is an unusual story in that his daughter is buried in North Wales a year after her father died. HUGH ROBERTS was born 1864 in Llanelidan parish North Wales. As far as I know he went out to Patagonia at some point then returned to die aged 34 in 1898 in South Wales. Could anyone please give me any pointers to Cemeteries in Maesteg so I can start to try and find a grave for him.

Many thanks
Kind Regards
Nerys

The Llangynwyd Burial Board (Glamorgan) was formally constituted in 1874, but it was not until 1883 that the Board opened a cemetery, situated in Maesteg.

This is the link for all cems in Glamorgan.  Maesteg would come under Bridgend.  The cost for a look up is a bit steep, perhaps, someone local on the board may help hopefully.

There are a few on the link to cover church/chapel in the  Llangynwyd / Maesteg area but don't know if it will help

Good luck

Hi Steve,
That's fantastic, that is the correct name for me, thank you so much. It's a big help as I'll see if I can find someone in that area willing to take a photo for me  ;D

Hi Steve,
That will be fantastic if you could take a photo if there is a headstone there. On the headstone in North Wales it mentions Hugh' and Ann's daughter Hannah Olwen is buried in Llanelidan aged 8 and that Hugh is buried in Maesteg. So maybe his wife Ann is buried with him too. Great stuff.
Thanks so much
Kind Regards

Didn't log in this weekend - if you can't manage it Steve, I can pop up there Saturday.

Let me know where section LL is as if you have that reference from the GFHS, it doesn't correspond to the maps in the cemetary themselves  - the guys working there despair whenever I have one of those references!

Don't blame you guy's for not managing a photo, the weather has been horrendous up this way for past few weeks now. Not to worry.

Best wishes
